چکیده

the Seventeenth Annual Symposium on Fundamental Cancer Research, 1963. Edited by R. W. Cumley. (Pp. 669; figs. 288. 128s.) London: Bailliere, Tindall & Cox, 1964. V IRUSES, Nucleic Acids and Cancer is a collection of papers presented at the 17th Annual Symposium on Fundamental Cancer Research in 1963. It is a book for research workers, by research workers and is primarily concerned with oncogenic viruses. Those not working in this field may find it rewarding to read a few of the papers such as the one by Dr. Horsfall on "The role of viruses in relation to cancer in animals and man," but by and large it is not a book for the general reader. Not so many years ago the few avian and mammalian oncogenic viruses which were known were considered oddities with no special relevance to the problem of malignant tumours in man. Now the situation has changed dramatically. Though the association of viruses with human leukaemia and cancer has yet to be shown conclusively there are few who now doubt that viruses play some part in the aetiology of some of the malignant tumours of man. This change in outlook has been brought about by our increased knowledge of oncogenic viruses in birds and mammals and much of the important recent work on this subject is brought together in Viruses, Nucleic Acids and Cancer. The close relationship of oncogenic viruses both in structure and biological properties to the more familiar viruses of infectious disease is apparent in many of the contributions. For example, the electron miiicrographs taken by Dr. Dmochowski and his associates of the Bittner milk-factor virus show it to resemble influenza virus in structure and Dr. Trentin and his colleagues describe the oncogenicity in animals of human adenovirus type 12. Dr. Hilleman in a general survey of mammalian oncogenic viruses stresses their ordinariness and points out that their ability to cause proliferative disease appears to be an unusual property only manifesting itself under certain circumstances. He speculates that cancer prophylaxis by means of conventional killed virus vaccines may be possible in the future. The contributions to this book are many and varied, but the majority are of a high standard and it can be recommended without reservation to those who are prepared to follow what one might almost call the day to day progress in this particular field of research. Au nanoparticles/g-C3N4 modified biosensor for electrochemical detection of gastric cancer miRNA based on hairpin locked nucleic acids probe

Objective: The annual incidence of cancer in the world is growing rapidly. The most important factor in the cure of cancers is their early diagnosis. miRNA, as a biomarker for early detection of cancer, has attracted a lot of attention. Methods: In this study, an electrochemical biosensor was developed to detect the amount of miR-106a, the biomarker of gastric cancer, by modifying a glass...

A Novel Genetic classification of SARS coronavirus-2 following whole nucleic acid and protein alignment of the isolated viruses

Background and aims: The end of 2019 has marked the year, which the human population encountered a novel virus; SARS-CoV-2 that causes a disease namely COVID-19. Here we focused on the genome and protein mutations and subsequently suggested a new classification of the SARS-CoV-2. Materials and Methods: Our study showed that some extra positions in the virus genome play a key role in the SARS-C...

ساختار مولکول DNA سه رشته ای: اهمیت و کاربردهای پزشکی آن

Back in 1957, when investigators produced a triple-stranded form of DNA while studying synthetic nucleic acids, few researchers paid much attention to the discovery. However, triplex DNA was never entirely forgotton and especially since 1987 its structural and functional importance in biological systems as well as its medical applications and therapeutic potentional have been extensively studie...

Cellular Morphology and Immunologic Properties of Escherichia coli Treated With Antimicrobial Antisense Peptide Nucleic Acid

Background & Objectives: Antisense peptide nucleic acids (PNA) that target growth essential genes show potent bactericidal properties without cell lysis. We considered the possibility that whether PNA treatment influence the bacteria total nucleic acids content and apply approach to develop a new delivery system to Dendritic cells (DCs). DCs are the most potent antigen presenting cells in th...

supposed that genes control ultimately all cellular functions, including protein synthesis. From the close association of genes with nucleoproteins, it is natural to assume that nucleic acids may be in volved in protein synthesis. Such an assumption can be supported by the fact that nucleic acids are always found associated with self-duplicating units (e.g., genes, viruses, plastids, transformi...

The application and mechanism of CRISPR-Cas systems in the treatment of infectious diseases

Infectious diseases remain a global threat with many people annually contracting the epidemic diseases. Improved understanding of the pathogenesis of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, along with rapid diagnosis and treatment of human infections are essential to improving infectious diseases outcomes worldwide. In many genomic loci in bacteria and archea, termed Clustered Regularly Inters...
